Percutaneous radiofrequency (RF) ablation of renal tumors is well tolerated and effective, according to the results of a short-term study reported in the December issue of Urology.
However, long-term efficacy still needs to be assessed. “Small occult renal neoplasms are generally treated in a nephron-sparing manner,” write Kenneth Ogan, from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, and colleagues. “Tumor ablation minimizes the morbidity associated with partial nephrectomy while still sparing the renal parenchyma.”
