The angiotensin II receptor antagonist losartan reduces proteinuria in non-diabetic patients with nephropathy, independent of blood pressure, researchers reported here November 1 at the meeting of the American Society of Nephrology (ASN).
Two major studies have shown that angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) protect the kidneys in cases of overt diabetic nephropathy, but there are few studies of their effect in non-diabetic patients with proteinuric nephropathy, according to Manuel Praga, MD, from Hospital 12 de Octubre, in Madrid, Spain.
