In women being evaluated for chest pain, mild renal insufficiency is associated with significant coronary artery disease (CAD), researchers report in the June 18th issue of Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association.
Dr. Steven E. Reis from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and colleagues studied participants in the Women’s Ischemia Syndrome Evaluation study who presented with chest pain and underwent coronary angiography. In this cohort, 728 women had normal renal function (creatinine <1.2 mg/dL) and 56 had mild renal insufficiency (creatinine 1.2 mg/dL to 1.9 mg/dL).
