Researchers said that using kidneys from older donors–“kidneys that likely would have been discarded”–for implantation in older patients appears to be successful.
Dr. Ulrich Frei, head of nephrology at the University of Berlin Charite Hospital, noted that in Europe and to a similar extent in North America, about half the people on waiting lists for donor kidneys are over age 65.
