In prostate cancer patients with limited disease, cryosurgery applied focally can spare one neurovascular bundle and thus preserve potency–without compromising cancer control, researchers report in the July issue of Urology.
Dr. Gary Onik and colleagues at the Center for Surgical Advancement at Celebration Health, in Celebration, Florida performed focal cryosurgery on the side of a positive biopsy in nine patients with prostate cancer. All patients underwent repeat prostate core biopsies on the side opposite the demonstrated tumor to confirm the absence of disease.
