Elevated serum levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) before renal transplant appear to be associated with subsequent chronic allograft nephropathy, researchers report the in May issue of the American Journal of Kidney Diseases.
Dr. Jeffrey C. Fink and colleagues, of the University of Maryland, Baltimore, note that atherogenesis appears important in the development of chronic allograft nephropathy and markers of inflammation, such as CRP, may be predictive of atherogenesis. To investigate, the researchers conducted a pilot case-control study.
