The EMEA has warned that Lilly’s impotence drug tadalafil (Cialis) should not be taken every day because animal experiments have shown it might decrease sperm counts. The new product label includes a warning saying it should not be taken every day because its long-term safety after prolonged daily dosing has not been established.
The summary of product characteristics for Cialis states that when dogs were given large daily doses of tadalafil for 6 to 12 months, there was “regression of the seminiferous tubular epithelium that resulted in a decrease in spermatogenesis in some dogs”.
