In men with high-risk prostate cancer, the PSA level and percentage of positive biopsies are among the most important pretreatment predictors of disease recurrence following radical prostatectomy, according to a recent report.
Dr. Gary D. Grossfeld, from the University of California at San Francisco, and colleagues determined predictors of recurrence by analyzing data from 547 men with prostate cancer who underwent radical prostatectomy. All of the men had high-risk cancer defined as stage T2c-T3 disease, a PSA level at diagnosis of > 20 ng/mL and/or a biopsy Gleason score of 8 to 10.
