A new multi-target DNA assay appears to be better than cytologic evaluation in detecting recurrent transitional cell cancer of the bladder, according to a report published in the November issue of The Journal of Urology.
Because the sensitivity and specificity of currently available urine tests is rather low, cystoscopic surveillance is needed to detect bladder cancer recurrence. Therefore, if a urine test with better sensitivity and specificity were available, it is possible that follow-up cystoscopies could be avoided.
