The results of two new studies support the previous finding of an increased risk of schizophrenia among offspring of older fathers. The findings appear in the September issue of the American Journal of Psychiatry.
In the first paper, Dr. Alan S. Brown from the New York State Psychiatric Institute, New York, and colleagues collected data on 71 individuals who had schizophrenia and other schizophrenia spectrum disorders. These individuals were part of the Prenatal Determinants of Schizophrenia study.
