Erectile dysfunction (ED) associated with beta-blocker use may in part be psychological and related to a general knowledge that the drugs are associated with such difficulties, according to research presented here at the European Society of Cardiology congress.
Study author Dr. Giuseppe Rosano, from San Raffaele hospital in Rome, told Reuters Health that problems with erectile dysfunction are commonly reported by men who are prescribed beta-blockers. However, it is possible that such problems stem largely from the fear that they will occur rather than the actual physiologic effects of these drugs.
