FDA Approves New Test Strip For Illicit Drugs

WASHINGTON (Reuters Health) Jul 29 –

US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved an on-site assay capable of detecting THC, cocaine, PCP, opiates and amphetamines in a single urine sample, drug test kit maker American Bio Medica Corp. said on Monday. The Rapid Tec 5 consists of a single testing strip that can detect more than one class of drug.

The assay was developed as a less expensive alternative to other multiple-drug screening devices, officials at the Kinderhook, New York-based company said. The company plans to launch its new product at the 54th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry, scheduled to begin on Tuesday in Orlando, Florida
