Previous HRT Use Linked With Reduced Alzheimer’s Disease Risk in Older Women

Prior use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is associated with a reduced risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease in older women, researchers report.

“What the data seem to be telling us is that longer duration of estrogen use is associated with lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease,” co-author Dr. John C. S. Breitner told Reuters Health. However, a protective effect was not observed unless the duration of HRT exceeded 10 years.
