NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Sept 09 –
More evidence suggests that supervised interruptions of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) in HIV-infected patients are probably not harmful.
The latest study comes from Dr. Ray Y. Chen of the University of Alabama at Birmingham and colleagues and is published in the September 1st issue of the journal AIDS Research and Human Retroviruses. The authors retrospectively determined the immunologic and virologic consequences of temporarily suspending HAART in 75 chronically HIV-infected patients.
