SSRIs Relieve Dizziness in Patients With Psychiatric Symptoms

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Jun 05 –

Treatment with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) can alleviate dizziness in patients with major or minor psychiatric symptoms, according to a report in the May issue of the Archives of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery.

Dr. Jeffrey P. Staab and colleagues from the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, reviewed the cases of 60 patients with psychogenic dizziness; dizziness due to a neurotologic condition, as well as significant psychiatric symptoms; or idiopathic dizziness, who were treated with an SSRI for at least 20 weeks.
