Children and adolescents with chronic daily headache may have one single syndrome rather than two coexistent headache types.
Moreover, in many cases, this syndrome will paroxysmally worsen and gather migrainous features, suggests a nine-centre study in the United States headed by Dr Matthew A. Koenig from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland.
Adults with chronic daily headache often describe a transformation from episodic migraine and partial retention of migrainous features. Until now, however, chronic daily headache in the paediatric compared with adult population has not been as carefully investigated, although one study suggested a predominance in young people of coexisting daily headache and episodic migraine, without a clear history of transformation.
