Budesonide inhalation suspension controls the rate of asthma exacerbations in young children more effectively than nebulized cromolyn sodium, according to the results of a randomized trial.
Dr. Jeffrey G. Leflein with Allergy & Immunology Associates, Ann Arbor, Michigan, and colleagues randomly assigned 335 children, 2 to 6 years of age, who had persistent asthma to budesonide inhalation suspension 0.5 mg/day or nebulized cromolyn sodium 20 mg four times daily. These doses were maintained for 8 weeks and then were titrated at the discretion
of the researcher.
