Neuromotor, language, and cognitive developmental impairments that begin in early childhood predict symptoms of schizophreniform disorder in childhood and adulthood, according to results of a prospective study conducted in New Zealand.
As part of the Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Study, 980 individuals born between 1972 and 1973 underwent periodic assessments until age 26. At the final assessment, 36 individuals were diagnosed with schizophreniform disorder, 20 were diagnosed as having manic episodes, and 278 were diagnosed with anxiety or depressive
disorders.
