NEW YORK (Reuters Health) May 22 –
Infants who are exclusively breast-fed for at least 16 weeks are at lower risk for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) than infants breast-fed for shorter periods of time, according to a report published in the June issue of the Archives of Disease in Childhood.
However, the impact of breast-feeding on SIDS risk appears to be small compared with the effect of infant sleeping position, lead author Dr. Bernt Alm, from Queen Silvia Children’s
Hospital in Goteborg, Sweden, and colleagues note.
