NEW YORK (Reuters Health) May 17 – Having furry pets in the house increases the risk of developing asthma among adolescents, according to a report in the May issue of Epidemiology. A humidifier in the home also increases the risk in this age group. “The risk of asthma associated with pets and other indoor exposures has been examined in both cross-sectional and prospective studies of younger children,” Dr. Rob McConnell, of the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, and colleagues note in the report. They examined the effect of the indoor environment on the incidence of asthma in 3535 adolescents with no history of asthma at baseline.
