NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Mar 29 – Compared with inhaled ipratropium bromide, intravenous infusion of salbutamol (albuterol) shortens recovery time and hospital stay in children with severe acute asthma, Australian researchers report.
Dr. Gary J. Browne, from the Children's Hospital at Westmead, Sydney, and associates studied 55 children with severe acute asthma. Initially, all the children were given nebulized salbutamol therapy. Children's whose asthma remained severe after 20 minutes were then given methylprednisolone intravenously.
