Osteoporosis Risk Can Be Determined Using One of Four Tools

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Jul 31 –

Bone mineral density (BMD) can be effectively measured in postmenopausal women at increased risk of osteoporosis using any one of four published risk indices, according to a report in the July issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings.

Although all four indices provide adequate assessment of risk, the Osteoporosis Self-assessment Tool index is the easiest to use and “therefore may be most useful in clinical practice, ” a multicenter group reports.
