Steroid injections into the hip joint may be effectively used without an added risk of developing femoral head necrosis in patients with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA), according to a report in the June issue of Arthritis & Rheumatism.
“Osteonecroses are a much feared complication in rheumatic diseases, while intraarticular steroids are an important cornerstone in the treatment of rheumatic arthritides,” Dr. Jasper Neidel from Charit University Hospital in Berlin, Germany told Reuters Health.
