Use of acid-citrate-dextrose as an anticoagulant does not substantially alter blood quality in retransfusion systems.
Researchers from the University Hospital of Regensburg and the University Hospital of Tübingen, Germany, enrolled 81 patients who underwent total knee arthroplasty, with retransfusion of drainage blood over six hours.
Blood was collected from 42 patients using acid-citrate-dextrose as an anticoagulant, no additives were used to collect blood from the remaining 39 patients.
