Twelve weeks of moderate-intensity exercise helps reduce blood pressure and improves lipid profile in patients with white coat hypertension.
While previous research has shown that exercise is beneficial for patients with mild hypertension, no study has specifically addressed patients with white coat hypertension, according to investigators from Taipei Medical University in Taipei, Taiwan, and the Chinese Medical University of Hong Kong in Hong Kong.
The investigators randomly divided 42 patients with white coat hypertension into two groups. Twenty-two patients exercised three times a week using a treadmill exercise program, and 20 patients served as controls with no exercise. Blood pressure, heart rate and biochemical parameters were monitored ever four weeks, over a period of 12 weeks.
