FDA Approves Medtronic’s Genetically Engineered Bone Graft for Back Surgery

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Jul 02 –

 The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) awarded final marketing clearance Tuesday for Medtronic Sofamor Danek’s Infuse Bone Graft, a device kit containing the recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein (rhBMP-2) that will offer an alternative to the surgical harvesting of bone now required to treat degenerative disc disease patients.

The FDA’s Orthopedics and Rehabilitation Devices Advisory Panel unanimously recommended approval of the device in January.
