Results of a cross-sectional study suggest that long-term inhaled corticosteroid therapy does not have a negative effect on bone mineral density (BMD) in asthmatic children.
Dr. Nerin N. Bahceciler and colleagues from Marmara University Hospital, in Istanbul, Turkey, measured anteroposterior spine and total body BMD in 52 asthmatic children treated with long-term inhaled budesonide (Group 1) and in a group of 22 children never treated with inhaled corticosteroids (Group 2).
