The European Commission said on Wednesday it was worried about the extent of doping in amateur sport after a study showed that more than 5% of fitness centre users admitted regularly taking drugs to improve performance.
The study is the first to investigate the issue across the European Union (EU), and highlights the urgent need to quantify the scale of problem, said the commissioner responsible for sport, Viviane Reding.
