NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Apr 26 – Treatment with the cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 inhibitor celecoxib, even at high doses, does not significantly alter the antihypertensive effect of the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor lisinopril, according to a report published in the April issue of Hypertension.
Previous reports indicate that treatment with nonselective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents can reduce the efficacy of ACE inhibitors. However, it was unclear whether this effect was mediated by inhibition of COX-1 or COX-2.
