NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Apr 24 – The risk of undergoing total hip replacement due to primary osteoarthritis is significantly increased with intensive physical activity at work and a high body mass index (BMI), according to researchers in Norway.
Dr. Gunnar B. Flugsrud, of Ulleval Hospital, Oslo, and colleagues matched data from a cardiovascular screening program with national data on hip replacement in order to identify risk factors. They note that 50,034 subjects were followed for an average of 9 years.
