Children with cerebral palsy benefit by femoral derotation osteotomy for the correction of anteversion and associated internal hip rotation during walking. American researchers suggest its effects are both viable and long lasting.
Paediatricians at Connecticut Children's Medical Centre in Hartford, Connecticut and Shriners Hospitals for Children in Greenville, South Carolina, evaluated the effectiveness of femoral derotation osteotomy (FDO) in 20 children (27 sides) with cerebral palsy immediately prior to surgery (P0), using a three-dimensional gait analysis. Further evaluation was done a year after surgery (P1) and then five years later (P2).
