Systemic cyclosporin A therapy appears to be minimally effective in preventing graft rejection in the setting of repeated corneal transplantation with a highly vascularized corneal bed, according to a recent report.

 Dr. Shimon Rumelt and colleagues, from Western Galilee-Nahariya Medical Center in Israel, assessed the outcomes of 21 patients who underwent 28 repeated corneal transplants and were treated with oral cyclosporin A therapy for a mean of 12 months. All of the corneal beds were highly vascularized. Twelve additional regrafts were not treated with cyclosporin A therapy and served as controls.
