NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Aug 23 –
A 63-year-old man being treated for chronic myelogenous leukemia developed massive, visually obstructing edema of the lower eyelids that required surgery while receiving Gleevec (Glivec, imatinib mesylate).
Histopathologic analysis of tissue removed at surgery indicates that the presence of dermal dendrocytes is responsible for the edema, which commonly occurs in mild form in patients treated with the tyrosine kinase inhibitor, investigators with The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center report.
