NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Jun 13 – Reducing elevated intraocular pressure with topical hypotensive medication can prevent or delay the onset of primary open-angle glaucoma, according to the results of a randomized trial reported in the June issue of the Archives of Ophthalmology.
In the Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study, Dr. Michael A. Kass, from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, and colleagues randomly assigned 1636 patients, 40 to 80 years of age, to observation or to commercially available topical hypotensive medication.
