Transplantation of non-preserved human amniotic membrane may be an alternative for management of painful bullous keratopathy in patients with poor visual attention.
The procedure is easy to perform and appears to have good results both symptomatically and aesthetically, say clinicians at Cornea Service Instituto de Ciencias de la Salud-CES Medellín, Colombia. Re-epithelialization, patient symptoms, and appearance of new bullae were compared in nine patients who received a corneal de-epithelialization followed by non-preserved human amniotic membrane transplant, and five patients who did not receive the transplant.
