ATI Medical Inc. said on Wednesday that it has received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for its IsoRod device for treatment of solid tumors. The IsoRod is an implantable, radioactive rod that is used to kill localized tumor cells, much like brachytherapy seeds.
Because the rod is bigger than brachytherapy seeds, ATI says that the IsoRod offers less interstitial migration, clear ultrasound resolution, and good dose isotropy.
