Patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia with a polymorphism of the P2X7 receptor gene, especially those with mutated VH genes, have better survival compared with other patients, Swedish researchers report in the December 14th issue of The Lancet.
“We found that we could us a single polymorphism to divide chronic lymphocytic leukemia patients into groups that predicted overall survival,” Dr. Richard Rosenquist from Uppsala University told Reuters Health. “The patients that had the polymorphism did better than the patients lacking the polymorphism,” he added.
