Researchers who tested three licensed software systems designed to help radiologists
decipher mammograms have determined that, overall, the commercial products do the job. “The good news is that all three of these programs do a pretty good job and they are all about the same in their performance,” said Dr. Michael Nelson, associate professor of radiology at the University of Minnesota Medical School, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States, during an oral presentation here December 5 at the 88th scientific assembly and annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America.
Dr. Nelson and colleagues performed an independent series of tests on the programs. The only support provided by manufacturers was the use of their mammogram reading systems.
