The FDA just approved Taxotere® (docetaxel) for the first-line treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), making it the only chemotherapy agent approved for newly diagnosed non-small cell lung cancer patients and those with recurrent disease.
With this approval, Taxotere is the first new treatment option for the first-line treatment of NSCLC patients in more than four years. This is important because NSCLC is extremely challenging to manage given low survival rates and limited treatment options.
More than 170,000 Americans are diagnosed with lung cancer each year, an estimated 155,000 of who die from the disease. In fact, lung cancer claims more lives than breast, prostate and colorectal cancers combined.
