AN-9, a novel histone deacetylase inhibitor, exerts in vitro antiproliferative and cytotoxic effects against acute lymphoblastic leukemia cells, even those resistant to conventional chemotherapy, according to a paper in the November 1st issue of Blood.
AN-9 (pivaloyloxymethyl butyrate) is a relatively nontoxic butyric acid prodrug previously shown effective against solid tumors and now being tested in a phase II trial for non-small cell lung cancer, Dr. Alice L. Yu, of the University of California San Diego Medical Center, and associates report.
