The breast cancer staging system put forth by the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) more than a decade ago has been revised, according to a report published in the September 1st issue of the Journal of Clinical Oncology.
“Our committee, known as the Breast Task Force, was formed about two years ago to see if any changes needed to be made to the current staging system, which was adopted in 1989,” lead author Dr. S. Eva Singletary, from M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, told Reuters Health. “Specifically, we wanted to make the system more evidence-based.”
