CVD Risk in Women With Metabolic Syndrome Rises With C-Reactive Protein Level

Among women with metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular risk is further increased when C-

reactive protein levels exceed 3 mg/L, physicians at Harvard Medical School report in the January 28th issue of Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association.

Dr. Paul M. Ridker and associates based their prospective study on data from the ongoing Women’s Health Study. For their analysis, they included 14,719 women age 45 or older with no prior history of CVD, diabetes or use of hormone replacement therapy upon enrollment between 1992 and 1995
