Obese women are more likely to have an unexplained stillbirth than their leaner counterparts, a new study presented here Tuesday at the annual meeting of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists suggests.
Results showed that those with a BMI greater than 30 prior to pregnancy were at twice the risk for stillbirth as women with a BMI between 20 and 25–a range considered “normal,” said study author Dr. Sandra Baydock, an obstetrician at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada.
