NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Apr 22 – People who smoke and those who drink tea or cola appear to have a reduced risk of developing Parkinson's disease (PD), according to a report published in the April 15th issue of the American Journal of Epidemiology. Coffee consumption or total caffeine intake, however, did not affect disease risk.
While the current findings support numerous reports showing a link between smoking and reduced disease risk, they run counter to several others that suggest that caffeine intake may be protective (See Reuters Health stories March 5, 2002 and November 13, 2000).
