A new hormone replacement therapy has been granted approval by the Medicines Evaluation Board of the Netherlands.
The product Angeliq® is a combination preparation containing oestradiol and drospirenone and is licensed for the treatment of menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes and vaginal dryness, and the prevention of osteoporosis in women.
According to the manufacturers Schering, Angeliq can counter-act water retention found with some other HRT preparations since the progestogen drospirenone blocks the effect of aldosterone
