Communication between physicians and patients is an important factor in determining whether or not older women with breast cancer are prescribed adjuvant tamoxifen therapy, according to a report in the June 1st issue of the Journal of Clinical Oncology. In a cross-sectional analysis, Dr. Rebecca A.
Silliman, of Boston Medical Center, in Massachusetts, and colleagues examined patterns of discussion about adjuvant tamoxifen and of prescribing among 698 older women (at least 65 years of age) with breast cancer. They collected data from patients’ medical records, telephone interviews with patients, and questionnaires completed by their physicians.
