The maternal risk of developing persistent gestational trophoblastic disease (pGTD), a malignant condition, appears to be unaffected if the woman decides to continue a twin pregnancy complicated by complete hydatidiform mole, London investigators report in June 22nd issue of The Lancet.
Dr. Michael J. Seckl and colleagues at the Imperial College School of Medicine at Charing Cross Hospital searched the hospital’s Trophoblastic Disease Unit database. They identified and evaluated 77 twin pregnancies complicated by hydatidiform moles with an apparently healthy co-twin. Fifty-three of the 77 women had elected to continue their pregnancies.
