Physicians may need to accelerate basal thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) screening for women in their childbearing years, Dr. Wolfgang Raber told participants here at the 84th annual meeting of the Endocrine Society on Wednesday.
“Although it is unusual to screen a healthy person for thyroid dysfunction before the age of 40, women of childbearing age represent a different subgroup within that healthy population,” Dr. Raber, an endocrinology fellow at the University of Vienna, told Reuters Health.
