Oral Contraceptives Might Be Protective Against Diabetes

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Jun 05 –

Young women taking oral contraceptives appear to have reduced fasting glucose levels, and may also be at reduced risk of diabetes, researchers report in the June issue of Diabetes Care.

In fact, lead author Dr. Catherine Kim told Reuters Health that “oral contraceptives do not seem to be associated with an increased risk of diabetes or increased glucose and insulin levels. This has been a concern in the past, so the findings are reassuring.”
