Switzerland voted in a referendum on Sunday to legalise abortion, bringing legislation in line with current practice and most other European countries.
Final results showed 72.2% of voters backed a proposal to allow abortions up to the 12th week of pregnancy. A rival proposal to ban abortion completely was rejected by 81.7% of voters. Participation was below 42%.
